Mike and Pam Barnes have been married for 35 years and have three adult sons, Chris, Danny, and Jonny. They have been serving at Community Church since January of 2014, recently relocating to Big Bear. Mike served as an Associate Pastor at the Grove Community Church in Riverside, CA for 15 years. Mike has a BA in Christian Studies from California Baptist University, as well as, a BS in Industrial Engineering Technology, from Southern Illinois University. Mike is an ordained minister in the Christian and Missionary Alliance and has authored two books: “First Steps, as a follower of Christ”, and “Which Way is the Ocean, Sharing Jesus with a skeptical culture”. Mike enjoys kayaking, fishing, guitars, hiking, and exploring new places with his wife Pam.

Shari joins our new Community Christian Counseling and Wellness Center. Shari has worked in in-patient, out-patient, and community mental health and chemical dependency programs in various roles: RN, counselor, and Program Director. She also taught in the human services and nursing programs at Saddleback College for 12 years. Shari developed many programs: Roque Center, the first social model detox in Orange County, an adolescent program in Newport Beach, and two adult psychiatric programs. She earned her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration. Shari is married to her best friend, John, and they have 5 adult children and just bought a home in Fox Farm.

I have worked as a licensed clinical psychologist for nearly 20 years both in California and New York City, providing a wide range of psychological services including diagnostic evaluation, individual and marital therapy, EMDR treatment for trauma, and helping clients build stronger and healthier relationships with others. With a commitment to the latest research on marriage and relationships, positive psychology, neuroscience, and a Christian faith based approach, I will teach you cutting edge strategies to help you gain deeper insight, explore ways to heal self and relationships, and become more aligned with your core
values. Married to Johann, we have 7 adult children and 5 grandchildren.
Specialty areas: Research based Gottman approach for couples and marriages in trouble; A positive psychology approach to enhance self confidence, increase motivation and improve emotional intelligence; and a Gospel centered approach to bring God and faith into the healing process. Another specialty area: blended families: doctoral dissertation on stepfamilies, mom and stepmom to 7 children. My interventions also include well researched proven methods called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. These techniques are problem focused and action oriented in nature, with the goal of addressing challenges through hands-on exercises & strategies.
